Enjoy a baseball game and create some Jewish commUNITY pride
Nearly 700 people from our Jewish community gathered for a special day at Chase Field in August 2024. The event, organized by the Center for Jewish Philanthropy and in partnership with more than 30 local organizations, brought together individuals from all walks of life to enjoy a day of unity, baseball, and festivities.

The crowd cheered on Holocaust survivor, Herbert Marx, as he threw the first pitch at the game!
Herbert Marx, a remarkable Holocaust survivor, had the honor of throwing the first pitch at our Jewish Community Day with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, during Hitler's rise to power, Herbert witnessed the horrific events of World War II firsthand.
At just six years old, he and his family were forcibly taken to the Gurs concentration camp in France, marking the beginning of a harrowing journey that would eventually see him escape with the help of the French Resistance and find refuge in Switzerland.
Despite losing his entire family in the Holocaust, Herbert’s spirit remained unbroken. He rebuilt his life in the United States, serving with distinction in the US Army and later working for the Secret Service. An ardent soccer enthusiast, Herbert has also dedicated 30 years as an international soccer referee and remains a proud member of both the German Soccer Federation and the United States Soccer Federation.
The Jewish Community Youth Choir sang the National Anthem beautifully!
A heartwarming performance by our talented youth choir led by Cantor Ross Wollman, captivated the audience with their rendition of the national anthem. The pride in their voices echoed throughout the stadium, creating a truly special atmosphere.
Thank you to all of the 2nd-9th graders who participated! Stay tuned for more opportunities to share your beautiful voices!
